The Family - Today
If we consider Mr. Geevarghese (Senior), father of Mr Chacko and Mr Mathunni, as the head of the modern Koottarazhikathu family, the current generations are 4th to 7th in the lineage. Until the 5th generation, most of our family members were engaged in agriculture and related business. However, the 5th to 7th generation, generally considered as 21st-century breed, have explored into different ventures and initiated a global migration phenomenon. The younger generations are highly educated in the areas of engineering, management, technical and medical fields and have been able to flourish in their own fields in a very professional way. Our new generation members are settled in different parts of the globe like Middle East, Australia, Africa, Europe and the Americas apart from different parts in India. Information Technology, Media, Banking, Healthcare, Teaching, the Government sector, the Public sector, and Entrepreneurship are some of the sectors where the younger generations are actively engaged currently. From our 5th generation, we have three Priests, out of which two are unmarried, devoted completely towards the Church Service as their mission. We are very proud to mention some of our family members who have attained remarkable achievements in their personal and professional life. 1. Rev. Fr.Dr. K Geevarghese � An Ashram priest devoted completely towards the church service. His mother, Mrs Aleyamma is from the Koottarazhikathu family, who was the daughter of Mr Mathunni Junior. Fr Dr Geevarghese completed his BD from Serampur University, MA Syriac from MG University and is currently working as a teacher in St Gregorios higher sec school, Kottarakara.. Recently Achen was awarded a Doctorate degree from Serampore University. 2. Rev. Fr.Dr.Isac B Prakash: Attracted to the priesthood after seeing the conviction and dedication of his paternal uncle, L L HG. Mathews Mar Epiphanios, the then Metropolitan of Kollam diocese and the eldest son of Mr M Kurikesu of the Koottarazhikam family. After graduating from S G College, Kottarakkara, he decided to choose the path of priesthood. Later, he got his B.D from Serampur university after completing his studies at Old Seminary Kottayam. His other educational qualifications include an MA in Sociology from CMS College, Kottayam, M.TH from Dharmaram College, Bangalore, and M.S (Psychology) from Madurai Kamraj University and B.ED from Kerala University. Currently pursuing his doctoral studies in Newyork, USA . Rev. Fr. Isaac is an accomplished counsellor and specializes in counselling and clinical psychology. He has also represented the Indian Orthodox Church in various Ecumenical forums. Isac achen was awarded a Doctorate degree from Newyork in 2022 for his thesis in clinical psychology and counselling 3. Rev Fr John K Vaidyan (Kaduvathottathil): Son of Mrs Annamma, (Daughter of Mr Geevarghese senior from Clavara). Rev Fr is currently settled in the United States of America and he is a family priest.
4. Mr Benil Mathew: A teacher by profession known for his immense organisational skills. He served a couple of terms as youth league general secretary of Thiruvananthapuram Diocese of Malankara Orthodox Church and contested in the last (2012) association election for the Orthodox Church managing committee. His grandfather, Mr Kochumman (Saruppan) was the fifth son of Mr. Mathunni Senior. He is currently serving as General Secretary of our Family Association. He has been elected as a Malankara managing committee member from Thiruvananthapuram Diocese for the period of 2017-2022. 5. Mr. Santhosh K Joy: A journalist by profession, had his stints at media houses like Asianet and Mint newspaper and currently appearing in different media houses as a political analyst. He is also heading the research wing of the Constitution Club of India, New Delhi, an autonomous organisation engaged in arranging training facilities to the honourable members of the Indian Parliament and state assemblies. His grandmother, Mrs. Mariamma was the eldest daughter of Mr. M. Kurikesu of the Koottarazhikathu family. 6. Mr George Chacko: Retired as under Secretary of Kerala State Government. He is the grandson of Mr Kochumman (Saruppan) and son of Mrs Thankamma. 7. Mr Jose J George: From Vengoor, grandson of Mr Chacko (vengoor appachan), who is the third son of Mathunni. A physical education teacher working with the prestigious Catholicate School, Pathanamthitta. He had been elected as managing committee member of Malankara Syrian Christian Association representing the Kottarakara- Punaloor Diocese of Orthodox Church in 2012. 8. Mrs Jessey Roy: Wife of Mr Roy K from Aduthala, currently serving as Panchayat president of Pooyappalli Panchayat, representing Chenkulam ward for the fourth time consecutively. In her previous stint, she was unanimously elected as Vice �President of Pooyappalli Panchayat. Her husband Mr Roy K is the grandson of Mr Geevarghese junior (son of Mr Mathunni Senior) 9. Mr K. K Mathew: Eldest son of Mr M Koshy and the grandson of Mr Mathunni senior, retired from Food Corporation of India (FCI) as District Manager. Currently, he has been the president of our association for a long tenure and also a governing body member of the Holy Trinity Higher Secondary School, Thiruvananthapuram.
